Description

This sutra, in Hancha (Chinese characters) and Korean, emphasizes parental benevolence, but also filial piety. It prescribes parental devotions toward children and is notable for its ecological examination of each of the months of pregnancy. In contrast to the Confucian Xiao jing, which focuses on a father's love and filial piety, this Buddhist work stresses parental love, especially that of a mother. Probably originating in China, this work was treasured in the Far East and, beginning in the 14th century, was widely printed and circulated in Korea.
