川角太閤記にある豊臣秀次（聚楽殿）切腹の逸話を脚色した物語。淀君と石田三成は豊臣秀吉、秀次父子が菊という女に惹かれていることを利用して秀次を切腹に追い込む。口絵の女は菊と思われるが、作中で彼女は自害を命じられてはいない。右の男は秀次の介錯を行った雀部淡路守か。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): A fictionalized account ot Toyotoi Hidetsugu's (Jurakuden) harakiri told in the Kawasumi Taikōki. Yodo-gimi and Ishida Mitsunari use the fact that both Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his son Hidetsugu are attracted to a woman named Kiku to force Hidetsugu to commit harakiri.
Description of the kuchi-e: A woman appears to be Kiku, but she is not ordered to take her own life in the story. The man on the right is possibly Sasabe Awajinokami who served as Hidetsugu's second.
