陸軍中将鶴牧の娘・登美子はキリスト教徒の野代との恋を父に反対され別荘に幽閉されたのち、望まない結婚をさせられその数日後に病死。野代の友人で登美子に思いを寄せる風森信夫から語り手が聞いた話として語られる枠小説。口絵は風森と登美子の別れの場面で、嫁入り直前の登美子と名残惜しそうに振り返って彼女を見る風森。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): A frame story told by a narrator who heard the tale from Kazamori Shinobu. Tomiko falls in love with Nojiro, a Christian man, but her father, Lieutenant General Tsurumaki, forbids the match and confines her to a villa. Tomiko is forced into a unwanted marriage and dies of a illness days later. Kazamori is a friend of Nojiro and also secretly loves her.
Description of the kuchi-e: A farewell between Kazamori, looking back reluctantly, and Tomiko right before her marriage.
