縁結びで知られる玄光稲荷のある村を舞台に、資産家松富武左衛門の美人二人娘・姉竹尾と妹倭文、小作の息子ながら村で最初の学士となった権一の三人の悲恋を描く。口絵は観音堂で会った竹尾と権一が、幼少期の思い出や病床にある倭文の権一への想いについて語る場面。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): Set in a village known for its Genkō Inari Shrine, famous for matchmaking, this is a tragic love story of three: the two beautiful sisteter of the wealthy landowner Mtsutomi Buzaemon--Takeo and Shizu--and Gon'ichi, the son of a tenant farmer who becomes the first college graduate in the village.
Description of the kuchi-e: Takeo and Gon'ichi talking about the childhood memories and the feeling of Shizu, who is suffering from an illnes, to Gonichi at the Kannondō hall.
