神戸で陶器の絵付けをする松田は西洋人を父に持つ娘・毬子に恋をするが、外国人居留地の唐櫃山付近を歩いていた時に毬子が外国人紳士と恋仲にあることを知り神戸を去る決心をする。口絵は松田が唐櫃山で見かけたハンモックに揺られる毬子。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): A story of Matsuda, a man who paints pottery in Kobe, falling in love with Mariko, whose father is a Westerner. While stralling near a foreign settlement, Karatoyama, he finds that Mariko is in a relationship with a Western gentleman, leading him to leave Kobe.
