Born Willard Kalima in 1924 in Honolulu, Hawaii, Willard "Honey" is the lesser known brother of Jesse Kalima, another famous Hawaiian musician. The two played together in a group called Thousand Pounds of Melody with their other brothers Junior and Albert. Honey was known for his influence in falsetto and guitar music. He later put together his own group, Honey Kalima and his Royal Hawaiians, which played at the surf room at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. He also toured the mainland, mostly under the name Joe Hawaii.
