From back of print: 2nd Battalion, Molokai-Lanai Volunteer Infantry, forms for ceremonies marking release of the Territory's Organized Defense Volunteers from military control. Formation and review were held at the Ball Park, Kannakakai, Molokai, Hawaii, on 4 July 1945. Brigadier General Dennis E. McCunniff, commanding general, Combat Training Command, represented Lieutenant General Robert C. Richardson, commander of Army Forces in the Middle Pacific, at the ceremonies and resented a certificate of commendation to the Molokai ODV Battalion from General Richardson, and certificates of meritorious service to outstanding members of the unit.
