The 179 images and Japanese titles with basic descriptions were gifted to the Japan Collection by the Nippon Rikkokai in DVDs early 2000. Permission has been granted to share the images via the UHM Library Image site. No manipulation was applied to jpeg images except adjusting sizes. The main images are lives of Japanese immigrants to Brazil in 19th and early 20th centuries. The titles provided by the Nippon Rikkokai have been kept as much as possible. When new or revised titles were supplied, they are expressed in brackets [ ]. English translations to the titles were made by the project team.
PHYSICAL STORAGE:The original magic lantern slides are at the Nippon Rikkokai, Tokyo Japan. DVDs are stored in the Asia Locked Press on the 4th Floor.
FUNDING SUPPORT: The project was funded by the UHM Library and partially funded by the National Research Center, East Asia grant.

No permission is needed if images will be used for non-commercial educational purposes, such as class lectures, students' presentations, and academic conference presentations. Please credit the images with the sentence:

"From the Lantern Slides of the Nippon Rikkokai, courtesy of the Nippon Rikkokai."

However if the images will be used in books, newspapers, documentaries, films, and other forms of media and print, the users must write to the Nippon Rikkokai to request permission. In the request, please explain the topic, image reference number, and the type of media/print.
