Juliette May Fraser Papers: Catalogue Raisonné

About the Collection

This Catalogue Raisonné of Juliette May Fraser is a record of artworks produced throughout her career. The Catalogue Raisonné consists of different colored 5” X 7” index cards with pertinent information such as title, medium, dimensions, history, and collection. It is believed most of the cards were created in the 1970s to support research for a retrospective exhibition of Fraser's work. The cards were added to the Juliette May Fraser Papers, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hamilton Library, in 2019 and 2021 as a gift of Kenneth and Kathryn Stubler. For more on the archival collection, see the guide to the Juliette May Fraser Papers.

Digitization Procedures

All Catalogue Raisonné cards were scanned on a KIC Avision A3 Bookedge Scanner FB6280E in 2020-2021. Very little has been done to adjust the images, to give the most accurate representation as a digital surrogate of the original. Digital images of the art which accompany the file cards are from the Juliette May Fraser Papers, Honolulu Museum of Art, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and other private collections.

We are grateful to Miriam Sappington for her intensive work on this important project. We thank the Honolulu Museum of Art and the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for providing the images of works in their collections and permission to include them. We are grateful for additional financial support for this project from Sharon Weiner.

We are indebted to past donors who gave materials to establish the Juliette May Fraser Papers at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Library. The initial donation was made by Charles Chang, executor of Juliette May Fraser's Estate, in 1983. Subsequent gifts were received from the Winona L. Chang Trust in 2016, and Mataumu and Ann Alisa in 2019, and Kenneth and Kathryn Stubler in 2019 and 2021. This project would not have been possible without the gifts from the Stublers which included the catalogue raisonné cards and photographs of artwork.
