COLLECTION PROVENANCE & ARRANGEMNT
The images in this collection were scanned from color slides donated to the Japan Collection in July 2010. 154 slide photos were taken by Dr. Kupfer right after WWII and 27 photos were taken by Irene Beran in 1956. There was no information available about Irene Beran and why her slides were included in the Kupfer Slide Collection. Digitization and public access permission was given by the donor.
Except for 8 of the Kupfer and the 27 Beran slides, the images are arranged by the slide number assigned by Dr. Kupfer Therefore, the Japan Collection numbered these slides from no. 147 to no. 195.
Dr. Kupfer wrote notations, date, year, and image clearance assessment on each slide frame. These notations were transcribed in the note section and translated into Japanese. See sample slide reference number 0-112.
Most of Japanese place names were verified, however, those which could not be verified are presented in brackets.
