Flies (also called Harbors) break from the Navy Tower on Sand Island

caption: This photo was taken of Flies (also called Harbors) break from the Navy Tower on Sand Island in the summer of 1971 as part of SOS's legislatively funded first Statewide Surfing Site Survey. It shows a breaking wave just inside the red buoy marking the Diamond Head edge of Honolulu Harbor channel. On normal summer days. trade winds blowing seaward in this area create clean breaking waves with the crests held aloft providing top form for surfers.
