Description

"Case indigène was the French for 'native house,' although 'case' is somewhat condescending, roughly equivalent to 'hut'." -George Grace (November 2006). Dr. Grace was in New Caledonia on two separate occasions during his travels. The first visit occurred sometime in late January or early February of 1955, lasted less than a week, and was spent entirely in the capital city of Noumea (in the island's southern province). The second visit was from April 2 to July 15, 1955, and also included the northern province of the island (where Koné is located).
