Description
Envelope: PHOTOS FOR USE IN "Boug: a personal history and Black Islanders"; Note on back: "NASIOI: Simple pottery made from local clay deposits provided a valuable trading commodity for some Bougainville villagers. Beaten by hand without a wheel, the pots are sun-dried and then superficially heated in open fires before sealing with a vegetable resin to make them non-porous.
This group is from the Nasioi area of central Bougainville. Pots are traded to mountain Nasioi villages in exchange for mats, baskets, or possum caught by hunting."
