From back of print: 2nd Hawaii rifles at regimental formation for ceremonies releasing Territory's Organized Defense Volunteers from military control at Honokaa, Hawaii, 4 July 1945. Brigadier General Herbert D. Gibson, commanding general, Replacement Training Command, represented Lieutenant General Robert C. Richardson, commander of Army Force, Middle Pacific, at the formation, at which he presented the regimental commander Colonel J. Scott B. Pratt, with a scroll of commendation for its part in the defense of the Big Island from invasion and sabotage.
