Halsey, U.S. Navy, Commander of the Third Fleet, addressed American soldiers, sailors, and marines liberated from Japanese prisons at a farewell ceremony held on the steps of Iolani Palace in Honolulu, before the group departed for the United States. Others on the program were, left to right: Lieutenant General Robert C. Richardson, commanding general, Army Forces Middle Pacific, and Governor Ingram Stainback of Hawaii.
