Description
Fig. 8 . Vascular network at boundary between cortex and stele of stem. Portion of a retted stem of a one-year-old plant to show the vascular network which occurs at the boundary between the cortex and the stele, and the basal portion of the adventitious roots (the latter were cut off at the surface of the stem before retting). A shows a face view (from the cortical side) of the network and the roots. B shows an individual root isolated from the network demonstrating that the latter consists chiefly of the vascular strands which emit from the roots. The upper illustration shows a view from the stelar side, the lower from the cortical side. Actual size.
