Description
"We undersigned oppose the use of Kaho'olawe as a bombing target by the U.S. military and its allies. We protest the joint military exercises scheduled for June 1984 during which'France and the RIMPAC nations - U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand-will be bombing and shelling the island.
Nearly 600 archaeological sites, including fishing shrines, house sites, temples, petroglyphs and stone quarries were recognized in 1981 when the entire island was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
The 'aina (land) is our life. It must be cared for with love and respect. For the preservation of Hawaiian culture for all who love Hawai'i, we call upon the U.S. military and its allies to stop the bombing and desecration of Kaho'olawe as a RIMPAC
target. Aloha 'Aina."
