Description
M.P. TSetsegov, translator and Professor at the Canton Teachers' College, writes in his
foreword: "the majority of these tales were taken from a collection called Liao zhai zhi yi by the Shandun teacher Pu Songling. The collection includes nearly 100 tales, but the majority of them are re-tellings based on one general theme. In addition many of the stories speak frankly about murders, robberies and tortures, which are not suitable for reading in families and schools. In view of this I have selected only seven tales that in my opinion are more or less characteristic of the Chinese fairytale genre and portray a softer side."
