Description

Astronomer, geographer, and naturalist Louis Le Comte was a French Jesuit missionary who worked in China from 1688 to 1691. His book which presents a spectrum of information on China also defended the Jesuit policy of accommodation of Chinese rites and customs. The book, condemned in 1700, sparked the Chinese Rites Controversy in Europe.
