Description
This small album of 14 samples of Tahitian tapa reveals the European fascination with the people and cultures of the Pacific Islands. The samples correspond to the descriptions in the "Catalogue of the Different Specimens of Cloth Collected in the Three Voyages of Captain Cook to the Southern Hemisphere," published in London, 1787. Hamilton Library's Pacific Collection holds that publication which also contains extensive examples of tapa from Hawai`i.
