Description
The volcano goddess Pele (left) sending lava to kill her lover Lohiʻau (reclining), while Hiʻiaka (center) tries to save him. Pele had sent her youngest sister, Hiʻiaka, to fetch Lohiʻau for her, but became jealous and destructive while waiting too long for their return. Dark brown ink on white paper. Titled, signed, and dated in pencil below the image.
