Description

A man in a canoe, looking down into the water. Fish hooks, fish, and an octopus below. The sun and hala tree leaves above. A border of 24 smaller images includes plants, animals, tools, and musical instruments. Dark brown ink on white paper. Titled, signed, and dated in pencil below the image.

"The one entitled 'E Waʻa E' was made for Mr. Tommy Holmes (author of The Hawaiian Canoe). He wants a poster/logo for his upcoming Pacific Canoe Conference. … I tried to give a sort of 'story board' feeling to the print and thereby touch all of the individual workshops with the bordering small images. Some kupunas will be lecturing on paddles, some on sails, ceremony, etc." — Varez
