Caption: Ground-breaking ceremony at TAMC: A Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the new $84 million addition and renovation to Tripler Army Medical Center was held in front of the main entrance to TAMC on 3 Nov 81. Speakers at the ceremony included MG Edward J. Huycke, Cdr, TAMC; MG George Kuttas, Asst Surgeon General and Chief of Army Dental Corps, DA, Washington, who represented the Surgeon General; COL ALfred J. Thiede, Cdr, US Army Engineer Div, Pacific Ocean; and Mr. M. A. Mortenson, President of M. A. Mortenson Co, the construction firm building the addition. The dedication address was delivered by the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, Senior Senator from Hawaii. The Reverend Abraham Akaka, Pastor of Kawaiahao Church, blessed the site of the new construction and representatives from all the Armed Services and the Veterans Administration turned their ceremonial shovels of dirt to start the project.
