主人公・吉田小四郎は療養先で出会った絹に惹かれ五年も彼女を忘れられずにいたが、偶然再会し想いを告げるも、彼女がその五年の間に外国人の妾として暮らしていたことを知り、彼女を許せず他の女と結婚する。口絵は物語の最後で新婚旅行に来た吉田が派手な服装をして芸人のような男たちに囲まれる絹を見かけた場面を描く。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): A story of Yoshida Koshirō, who, after a five-year obsession with Kinu, is reunited with her only to learn she was a foreign man's mistress. Unable to forgive her, he marries another woman.
