Hawaiian Music Collection - Stewart, Danny Kalauawa: Performer Biography

Danny Kalauawa Stewart was born in Honolulu, HI and made a huge impact in Hawaiian music with his lovely singing voice and the many compositions that he arranged. In 1925 He left Hawaii and toured with Johnny Noble's stage show. For five years, Stewart lived in Los Angeles and worked with many musicians such as Bing Crosby, Alan Apaka and George Kainapau. He also worked for Universal Studios for five years and played the background music for some movies, including the most famous movie, From Here to Eternity. He and fellow musician Barney Isaacs alternated turns as hosts of the radio show "Hawaiian Calls" after former host and musician Jules Ah See passed away in 1960. Danny passed away in 1962.
