From back of print: Brigadier General Dennis E. McCunniff, commanding general, Combat Training Command, addresses the 1st Battalion, Molokai-Lanai volunteer infantry, at ceremonies in the ball park, Kaunakakai, Molokai, Hawaii, on 4 July 1945, marking release from military control of the Territory's Organized Defense Volunteer Units. General McCunniff, representing Lieutenant General Robert C. Richardson, commanding Army Forces, Middle Pacific, presented a certificate of commendation to the Molokai Battalion of the ODV for its services. On the platform with General McCunniff are left to right: Major Isaac F. Bonifay, deputy chief of staff, Combat Training Command; First Lieutenant John N. Owen, aide de camp to General McCunniff; the general; Major Herbert L. Hettrick, executive officer, Army Garrison Force, Maui; Major John W. Hoxie, executive officer, Molokai Battalion. Behind General McCunniff is Captain Harold L. Fothergill of the general staff, Headquarters Central Pacific Base Command.
