Fig. 30 . Trichome. Surface view of the epidermis from the nodal region of the medial portion of a stem of a 6-months-old plant to show the head of a trichome. A single (and sometimes a second) row of such trichomes occurs in the nodal region of the stem. Notice the irregular shape of the epidermal cells in this region and the silica body inclusions in these cells. X340.
