Description
WE UNDERSIGNED OAHU RESIDENTS STRONGLY URGE UPLIFTING OF THE EVICTION OF FISHERMEN OF MOKAUEA ISLANDS IN KEEHI LAGOON: * Mokauea fishermen are at present no burden to the community. They contribute sea foods to friends and the local markets. If evicted, they could be an additional public welfare cost of over $200,000, contribute to housing & unemployment crises. * Portable sanitation units can be added to those already available to some islanders to meet health requirements. * Some Mokauea residents provide unpublicized rescue and aid to distressed boaters, fishermen and others in the area, due to absence of state or county services. * Mokauea islands are NOT part of the Sand Island Park or reef runway plans. * Honolulu community groups have pledged assistance in upgrading the area with cleanups, additional vegetable gardens and other help. * Wise counsel suggests finding ways to help rather than hurt Hawaii's refugees of urbanization.
