Description
Opus novum, antehac nunquam visum, cujuscunque conditionis hominibus utilissimum, jucundissimum, maximè necessarium, & adornatum.
The hand-colored copperplate engravings illustrate pre-Newtonian theories of astronomy that demonstrate the relationships of the earth to the universe. These include Ptolemaic theory that the earth was the center of the universe, and the then radical theory of Copernicus whereby the sun became the center of the solar system. Magnificent constellation charts show star formations in traditional classical mythological forms, as well as alternative interpretations of the stars in biblical forms.
