Description

Some of the shells included in George Perry's publication were possibly collected by Captain William Bligh who is most known for the mutiny on his ship, the Bounty. The 61 aquatint plates are recognized for their aesthetic and scientific invention. However, Perry's work was criticized for inaccuracies of colors and forms in the illustrations and for the idiosyncratic names that he proposed. Thus, the work was marginalized from serious scientific examination until the late 19th century. Today, many of the names Perry introduced are in actual use.
