Description

Broadsides were a very useful source of information during strikes, revolutions, and similar tumultuous events. Many of them fell into the category of being illegal, because they did not go through the censor. They were quick and cheaper to print than a newspaper. Hamilton Library has three examples from the Allied Intervention in Siberia (1918-1920). This was the attempt by troops from America (9,000), Britain (800), Canada (4,000), Australia (300), Italy (1,400), and Japan (70,000) to support the Czech Legion, a group of 50,000 prisoners of war who were congregated along the Trans-Siberian Railroad aiding the Tsarist White Army under Admiral Kolchak. The Allied force landed in Vladivostok and spread along the Trans-Siberian and Chinese Eastern railroads.
