Description

明治の世で華族の地位も嗣子の地位も捨て平民となった祐清と夫婦として暮らしていた主人公・お雪は、祐清が亡くなり息子・祐太郎とともに現当主で義弟の祐平の世話になるが、平民を見下す彼らの非情さに耐えかね発狂する。口絵は美人だがつぎはぎだらけの粗末な着物姿で悔しがる様子のお雪と、泣きながら母に手を引かれる祐太郎を描く。 /
Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): A story of Oyuki, a wife of Sukekiyo, who abandoned his noble status and potion as an heir to become a commoner in the Meiji era. Following his death, she and her young son, Yūtaro, are taken in by her husband's brother, Sukehira, the current head of the family. However, unable to endure their cruel and condescending treatment of commoners, Oyuki goes mad.
Description of the kuchi-e: A beautiful but shabbily dressed Oyuki who expresses her frustration, pulling her crying son.
