Description

Description of the associated story (see Is Part Of): Set in late 19th-century Honolulu, this is the story of Murukarani, a poor Kanaka man suffering from leprosy, who is saved by the actress Miran-jō, who plays the lead role in "Kesa Gozen." Miran-jō is a woman of mixed Japanese samurai and white heritage, and other racially diverse characters are also depicted.
Description of the kuchi-e: the woman seems to be Kesa Gozen from the historical text "Genpei Seisuiki," but it does not a scene or a character from the associated story.
